After resigning myself to the fact that Netflix would only, possibly be launching in South Africa next year, I had taken up to trips to the DVD stores, yes they still exist, to catch up on my favourite new and old series. Then, rather unexpectedly in mid-August, ShowMax launched and changed everything.
I cannot begin to explain how behind I am on just about every series out there, I missed the boat with all the classics, old and new, like The Sopranos, The Good Wife, The Wire, Ray Donovan and so many more. Basically I have had thousands and thousands of hours to catch up on and it’s been rather daunting, until ShowMax that is.
After spending hours browsing the selection, which is every series I have started, stopped or tried to watch I discovered they literally have it all. I immediately started adding shows to my watchlist incase I forgot anything and got sucked into finding the best of the old, new and nostalgic. And find I did, with a host of movies, documentaries and docu-series, there is something for everyone.
It’s mind blowingly cheap, at R99 per month for a premium subscription and unlimited viewing and is worth every cent. Streaming was an initial concern and after watching countless hours, I can safely say it loads as quickly as you can watch it and settles into 720p, high resolution viewing.
They have gritty weekly series from Vice, every series imaginable, from ‘Bates Motel’ and ‘Californication’ to ‘House of Lies’, ‘Dexter’ and countless more, they also showcase hundreds from movies from your favourite romantic comedies to action thrillers.
It’s not even one to think about, if you are at all into series, movies and documentaries, then ShowMax is just for you and I can’t recommend it enough.
