Travel Diaries: Mauritius: Ilot Mangenie

IMG_2918

After some wonderful time in Mauritius, the weather thankfully had cleared up and with that in mind we decided it was the perfect time to visit Ilot Mangenie.

Ilot Mangenie is Le Touessrok’s a private island, you can catch a ferry there from the jetty which is a few minutes walk from the hotel lobby.  The ferry to the island is free and it departs every 20 minutes. Luckily for us even after our late start the ferry pulled up minutes after we arrived and we had it to ourselves. The ride only takes 10 minutes and you all of a sudden you arrive at a little piece of paradise.  You walk along the jetty and there to meet you are two men, the one sprays your face with rose water, and the other cleans your sunglasses. It was an experience!

We took a little walk down the beach and got to Crusoe’s Restaurant where we had a table reserved for an early lunch. Since we hadn’t made it to breakfast we had worked up an appetite so the baked bread with pickled vegetables, coconut chutney and the amazing olive tapenade was a treat.

To start we ordered the basket of local snacks which consisted of vegetable spring rolls, samosas which were divine. For mains I ordered the king prawns, they so fresh and tasty! Tal got the grilled steak which came with broccoli and potato wedges, which was good but mine definitely stood out.

While we were enjoying our food the clouds suddenly cleared we got that picture perfect material blue sky and turquoise sea. All of this had to be captured so we spent some time taking photos of each other and the island. I went back to the table after awhile and ordered the flambeed banana and mixed ice-cream for both of us. That was also a hit. The homemade ice cream, which was vanilla, dark chocolate and coconut was some of the best I have ever tasted and was really hard to share!

After a leisurely dessert we looked and suddenly realized the time, it was already 12:40 and we had to be at the spa in 20 minutes. We said a quick goodbye and thank you and caught the waiting ferry. It seemed the timing was actually rather perfect as on our way back started drizzling.

We managed to make it to Givenchy spa in time and had the most luxurious aromatherapy massage ever. It was such a relaxing hour and either of us wanted it to end.

It was an incredible day. A secluded island with fantastic weather and food, all followed by a spa treatment. We were truly in paradise!

Ps To experience the magic yourself, for reservations and further information call World Leisure Holidays on 0860 954 954, email them, or go to their website. It will be the best decision you made all week. Trust me!
