What: Live Music at 5 Rooms.
Where: The Alphen Hotel in Constantia.
When: Wednesday to Sunday night from 8pm.
When I was invited to attend one of the live music nights at the 5 Rooms at The Alphen in Constantia I simply couldn’t resist. The restaurant is one of the most well renowned in Cape Town and has been on my list of places to go for awhile now.
I decided to have a girls night and Nicole joined me for drinks, a catchup and a night of great food music.
We started out with cocktails – the Strawberry Daiquiri is must have – and then tried out the snack platter on offer. Think the most amazing mix of truffle polenta, salt and pepper squid, croquettes and more. It was perfect amount for two and we oohed and aahed with each bite!
Around us, the live performance had begun and did it deliver! The band, under the curatorship of saxophonist Rus Nerwich from The Woodstock Music Academy, played a mix of old and new, classic and fun pop mixes, all with a jazzy twist. Some of my favourites included, Georgia on Mind, Just the Two of Us, Mustang Sally, Fever and one of the best covers of No Diggity I have heard in awhile!
A little while into the music, we decided to have a sneaky treat and delved into the dessert menu, all of which we wanted to order, after much debate we settled on the Hazelnut Praline Chocolate Mousse and the Creme Brûlée Cheesecake, both of which I have been dreaming about and need to go back to have again!
The evening was fantastic and I would highly recommend it, it’s a fun twist on evening night drinks and the cosy and inviting atmosphere of the 5 Rooms, as well as its mix of old world charm makes it a little something different and exciting.
Did I mention how incredible the music and food were? I know I will definitely be back again soon!
